She shares her beautiful home with her partner, Nabil, and their cats, Inky and Mochi. Once a cramped and awkward entrance with a giant toilet dominating the space, it has since been reimagined into a bright, welcoming passage. The yellow staircase, chosen to energize her on the way to bed, sets the tone, while a faux terrazzo “sprinkle floor” brings her love of baking right underfoot.
“I wanted it to look like sprinkles,” Kim-Joy explains, noting how she hand-tore paint chips to scatter across the surface before sealing them with polyurethane. It is just one example of how she blends playfulness with craft.
And of course, no Kim-Joy design would be complete without a touch of drama. Double-height ceilings, bubble-like lighting fixtures, and bold pops of color ensure the hallway is as eye-catching as it is inviting.
For Kim-Joy, the heart of the home is undoubtedly the kitchen. Originally small and awkward, and with the help of her architects at Studio J, they reworked the layout to create a spacious extension that now houses her dream setup.
“This kitchen is everything I wanted,” she says, gesturing proudly at the pastel cabinets, brass accents, and thriving plants. “It’s practical first, colorful second.”
Every detail was truly thought about, from the measurements that allow her to bake while Nabil washes up to the placement of lamps and fairy lights that soften the space for her light-sensitive eyes. She even tiled the floor herself, ensuring the lines were laser straight.
Her pantry, tucked behind a golden-arched doorway she hand-gilded, is equally impressive. Shelves overflow with ingredients, appliances are neatly accessible, and, of course, there are not one but two sprinkle drawers.
The open-plan kitchen flows seamlessly into a living-dining area, with large windows that fold open onto a patio filled with bamboo. Inside, a bespoke mural by Avalana Design ties the natural greenery outside with playful touches indoors, complete with a toucan and jaguar hidden among watercolor foliage.
“I wanted the space to be colorful yet calm,” Kim-Joy reflects. “The bamboo, the wood, the mural, they all balance the energy.”
Upstairs, the playful palette continues but shifts toward comfort and calm. A cozy bedroom in warm oranges and pinks contrasts with a checkerboard master suite that stretches its bold pattern across the ceiling. Bathrooms are lush with plants, graphic tiles, and custom touches, many from IKEA and cleverly transformed with paint, vinyl wrap, and wallpaper.
In one of the episode’s sweetest moments, Kim-Joy whips up marbled shortbread cookies in her kitchen, drawing a parallel between baking and home design.
“With both, you’ve got to think about colors, textures, measurements, and focal points,” she explains. “It’s a balance of structure and creativity.”
For Kim-Joy, her home is less about luxury and more about joy, crafted carefully in layers, just as she does with her bakes.
Colorful yet calm, practical yet playful, her Leeds home is an extension of her personality: warm, whimsical, and full of unexpected details that make you smile. As she puts it, “It’s just a giant cake that I love to live in.”
And for fans who cannot get enough of her joyful touch, her upcoming book Ordinary Joy promises to sprinkle more of that magic into everyday life.
