A First for LHM in the United States
This cabin marks a milestone as the first LHM project in the United States, a debut that carries particular resonance for Matt and Summer, who have previously stayed in LHM cabins in Norway. Known for craftsmanship, warmth, and a beautifully pared-back approach to living, the brand’s Scandinavian roots feel familiar and refreshingly new in Montana. “Think European Scandinavian design meeting the American market,” Matt notes, calling it one of their favorite homes featured to date and setting expectations for a tour that balances architectural rigor with lived-in comfort.
Architecture and Craft
Set on 2.52 private acres, the 5,400-square-foot cabin is defined by its material honesty and engineering precision. Timber construction is paired with Norwegian stone imported specifically for the project, while copper detailing on the gutters and chimney introduces a material that will age gracefully over time. The structure blends a cozy cabin sensibility with a modern architectural expression, achieved through hand-cut logs assembled using the traditional Norwegian notch. “They slot together like a groove,” Matt explains, noting that the handmade quality gives the building its tactile, crafted presence.
An Entrance Designed for Living
The transition indoors feels natural and effortless, as Norwegian stone flooring continues from outside into the entrance hall. Underfloor heating runs throughout the home, maintaining functionality without sacrificing aesthetics.
Landscape Frame in the Living Room
The main living space is anchored by a dramatic, triple-glazed picture window sourced from Europe, an engineering feat that transforms the surrounding landscape into living art. “You don’t need a TV here,” Summer observes, contentedly gazing out at the greenery and snow beyond. Despite the scale of the glazing and the soaring ceiling above, the room retains an intimate atmosphere, reinforced by a fireplace set on a single slab of Idaho stone and raw steel detailing that stretches upward, integrating quality and sophistication.
The Kitchen and Dining Area
The concept of proportioned luxury is carried over into the kitchen, with a generous island and dining table that seat up to twelve. Italian pendant lights with leather detailing echo the bespoke chandelier in the living room, while discreet technology elevates daily routines. Summer’s reaction to the hidden wireless charging captures the feel of the space. “You can’t even see it,” she laughs, a reaction mirrored by motorized cabinetry, integrated appliances, and leather-wrapped handles that bring automotive-inspired precision into the heart of the home.
Private Retreats and Everyday Comfort
Bedrooms throughout the cabin are conceived as restful sanctuaries, each offering generous views, custom furnishings, and intuitive technology. On the ground floor, Matt imagines waking to snowfall framed by expansive glazing, calling the room “somewhere you’d never want to leave.”
Ensuite bathrooms favor pared-back natural luxury, with flush showers, tactile materials, and thoughtful ventilation that allows fresh mountain air to filter in. “It’s design, but also practicality,” Matt notes, emphasizing that storage and usability are never sacrificed.
Wellness by Design
Wellness is a core part of the LHM design. A dedicated spa area houses a sauna, shower, and direct access to the outdoors, promoting the process of warmth, cold, and relaxation following exhausting sloping days. Copper detailing is used subtly throughout, while magnetic door closures and flush finishes demonstrate the brand’s keen attention to detail. “Having a sauna in your home is such an important factor,” Matt says, positioning wellness not as a luxury extra but as an essential part of mountain living.

LHM co-founder Laurynas Mitkus explains that the cabin is conceived as a single, unified product, from structure and cabinetry to staircases and interiors. Designed and prefabricated in Lithuania before being assembled on site, the process allows a home of this scale to be completed in under twelve months. “It’s more an assembly process than a building process,” he says, likening it to a carefully engineered system where nothing is left unresolved. It is a turnkey home, complete with every detail.
Spaces to Gather and Relax
Upstairs, the cabin reveals its most playful side, with cozy guest rooms, flexible work and lounge areas, and a multi-purpose den that Summer declares her favorite. Tucked-in sleeping nooks and a cinematic layout make it ideal for families and gatherings, capable of accommodating large groups without feeling overwhelming. “This would be a dream for kids,” she says, wrapped in a blanket as a holiday movie plays, demonstrating the home’s balance of elegance and warmth
Life Beyond the Cabin
Beyond its walls, the cabin is inseparable from its setting. Big Sky’s outdoor culture, from world-class skiing and hiking to fly fishing and summer exploration, defines daily life here. Realtor Callie Pecunies highlights the rarity of a fully realized, move-in-ready home of this caliber, noting that buyers can bypass years of construction and begin living immediately. As snow falls softly outside and the hot tub steams in the distance, Matt reflects on the essence of the place. “Whether this is your primary home or a second home,” he says, “it’s all about being at one with nature.”
