Inside Bali’s Extraordinary Private Jet Villa Perched Above the Indian Ocean
Overview
High above the cliffs of Nyang Nyang Beach in Uluwatu sits one of the world’s most remarkable hospitality projects. Once a retired Boeing 737, the aircraft has been transformed into an exclusive luxury villa overlooking the Indian Ocean. What many believed was impossible has become one of Bali’s most talked-about destinations, combining aviation history with contemporary design in a way that feels completely original. As Tim puts it, “Today, what once sounded impossible has become one of the most talked about hospitality projects anywhere in the world.”

An Arrival Designed Like First Class
The experience begins long before stepping aboard. Guests check in at an arrivals desk, collect a personalised boarding pass, and walk through beautifully landscaped gardens before reaching the aircraft. The route recreates the excitement of boarding a flight, and the elevated materials, sculpted planting, concealed lighting and carefully designed pathways reveal the premium experience that awaits. Tim sums it up perfectly: “I already start to feel quite luxurious, quite high-end.”
A Remarkable Engineering Achievement
Behind the dramatic setting lies an equally impressive story. Developer Felix Demin purchased the aircraft in 2021 and spent two years turning an ambitious vision into reality. The Boeing 737 had to be dismantled into multiple sections, with tens of thousands of bolts removed before every component was transported along Bali’s narrow roads to the cliffside site. Once assembled, architects, engineers and designers completely reimagined the aircraft while preserving its identity, creating an immersive experience that still celebrates its aviation heritage.
Luxury Above the Ocean
Outside, the villa opens onto an infinity pool positioned 150 metres above the Indian Ocean, complete with a glass-fronted edge, jacuzzi, generous sun loungers and uninterrupted coastal views. Nearby, a firepit provides another place to relax as waves crash below the cliffs. “It’s that view that you come here for” Tim says, describing the setting as one of the property’s defining features. Whether relaxing by the pool or enjoying sunset drinks, every outdoor space has been designed to celebrate the landscape.
Contemporary Living Inside the Aircraft
Stepping inside reveals a surprisingly spacious open-plan living area where the aircraft’s curved structure becomes part of the design itself. A neutral palette, travertine surfaces, soft furnishings and brass accents create a vibe that is elegant without losing the character of the original plane. Tim describes it as “a real fusion of aviation architecture”. Additional features including a private chef, butler service, hidden kitchenette and even a dedicated champagne button highlights the villa’s premium experience.
Bespoke Design in Every Cabin
Transforming a commercial aircraft into luxury accommodation required exceptional craftsmanship. Because almost every surface curves, much of the furniture, cabinetry and detailing was custom made specifically for the aircraft. The guest suite makes clever use of hidden storage, integrated lighting, smart controls and electric blinds, while travertine bathrooms, bronze fixtures and carefully concealed air conditioning create a refined atmosphere. Throughout the interiors, designers have balanced the aircraft’s original structure with the comfort expected of a world-class luxury retreat.
Life on the Wing
One of the villa’s most unforgettable spaces is the wing terrace, where guests can stand on the wing of a Boeing 737 while overlooking the Indian Ocean. Comfortable seating creates the perfect setting for cocktails or quiet moments watching the sunset, while sweeping architectural lines merge naturally into the surrounding cliffside.
Sleeping in the Cockpit
The principal suite occupies what was once first class and the aircraft’s cockpit, creating one of the most unique bedrooms imaginable. From the bed, guests wake up to panoramic ocean views framed by the original cockpit windows, while a luxurious bathroom features twin travertine basins, brass detailing and a jacuzzi bath overlooking the coastline. Reflecting on the experience, Tim says, “This is the type of experience that makes one of those memories that you’re going to cherish… a story that you want to tell over and over again.”
More Than a Place to Stay
Starting from approximately IDR 40.5 million (around US$2,300) per night, the Private Jet Villa offers far more than luxury accommodation. It delivers an experience that few places in the world can match, combining engineering, architecture, hospitality and unforgettable views into a destination unlike any other. As Tim concludes, “This has been a once-in-a-lifetime experience, one that I’m not going to ever forget. You could stand on the wing of a 737 overlooking the Indian Ocean in Bali.”
