Inside Villa Jardin at Le Provençal on the French Riviera

Overview

Set in Antibes on the Côte d’Azur, Villa Jardin at Le Provençal pairs the grandeur of its historic setting with the comfort and flexibility of contemporary living. Originally built in 1926 as one of the Riviera’s landmark luxury hotels, Le Provençal has been redesigned as 35 exclusive residences, preserving its Art Deco character while introducing a highly considered modern lifestyle. The five-bedroom, six-bathroom Villa Jardin is the largest of the garden villas, offering around 6,000 square feet of interiors alongside almost 10,000 square feet of private terraces and gardens.

A New Chapter for a Riviera Landmark

Le Provençal has a remarkable history, having welcomed figures including Charlie Chaplin, Marilyn Monroe, Pablo Picasso, and the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. The renovation by John Caudwell draws on that heritage. As Tim explains, it is “a blend of sophistication, luxury styling of the 1920s, the Art Deco period, but keeping that modern contemporary accessibility to lifestyle that we want in modern living.” Original architectural elements, stained glass and decorative details sit alongside contemporary interiors, honouring its heritage while introducing a distinctly modern way of living.

A Grand Entrance and Sun-Filled Reception

The grand entrance captures the villa’s dialogue between Art Deco heritage and modern living. Art Deco detailing, original pillars and decorative stained glass frame a sequence of spaces leading towards the reception room, where large French doors open onto the terrace and gardens. Tim describes the space as having “a real focus, a blend on the indoor, outdoor living” suited to the relaxed Riviera lifestyle.

The reception room is arranged symmetrically for entertaining, and the views extend through the dining room and towards the kitchen, creating a strong visual connection between the main living spaces.

A Mediterranean-Inspired Dining Space

The formal dining room seats 12 and continues the property’s connection to its Mediterranean setting. A limited-edition Philippe Bonfield dining table, fashioned from shells and lava stone, introduces natural materials, while pine-green tones echo the foliage outside.

Nearby, the dual-kitchen arrangement allows the villa to move effortlessly between casual family living and larger gatherings. The show kitchen is designed for relaxed breakfasts and everyday use, and a separate chef’s kitchen provides the capacity for more formal entertaining.

A More Relaxed Side of Riviera Living

Beyond the main reception lies a glass gallery connecting the villa to the guest house, where the ambiance becomes brighter and more playful. Vibrant colours give way to softer ocean blues in the guest bedroom, and French doors, generous storage and an ensuite bathroom allow visitors to settle comfortably for longer stays.

The villa’s lower level also includes another guest bedroom, a study and a media room with a walk-in cocktail bar and built-in champagne fridge. For Tim, the media room is particularly suited to laid-back evenings, whether watching a film with family or get together with friends.

A Private Cinema with Art Deco Character

Residents also have access to Le Provençal’s cinema, an amenity that continues the building’s historic character in a distinctly theatrical way. Art Deco handles, stained glass, decorative flooring and period-inspired artwork lead into the auditorium, where the original theatre stage has been retained. “This for me has got to be one of my favorite rooms” says Tim, who imagines the space as somewhere to watch films, host friends or even arrange a private soirée. It is another example of how the development turns its history into part of the contemporary living experience.

Bedrooms with Riviera Character

Upstairs, the bedrooms take on a more residential, suite-like character, with generous wardrobes, walk-in storage and balconies that open towards the Riviera landscape. Ocean blues, natural textures and marble bathrooms create a calmer vibe, while the principal suite takes the level of privacy further. A four-poster bed, abundant natural light and French doors leading to a private terrace establish a distinctly romantic setting. Two dressing rooms and two bathrooms provide additional luxury, with Art Deco detailing appearing in elements such as the handles on the sliding pocket doors.

A Private Pool Above the Villa

The principal suite leads towards one of the property’s defining outdoor spaces: a private pool terrace overlooking the sea. Here, the architecture transitions to alfresco living, with space for dining, entertaining and relaxing around a private 36-foot infinity pool. Tim says this is where he could imagine spending much of the time at the villa.

A dedicated pool house extends the experience with a fully equipped bar, wine and champagne refrigeration and Gaggenau appliances, allowing the space to work equally well for private family time together or larger occasion.

A Complete Wellness Experience

The resort lifestyle extends beyond the villa itself. The resident spa includes a hydrotherapy pool, jacuzzi, warm and cold plunge pools, sauna, steam room and additional treatments, while the dedicated gym features Technogym equipment and its own private studio. Residents can also arrange treatments through the concierge service, including couples’ massages and sports therapy. As Tim puts it, “whether you’re here to train, recover, relax, or completely switch off, every part of the experience can be tailored around you.”

Living the Riviera Lifestyle

What distinguishes Villa Jardin is the way its historic setting, private spaces and extensive resident amenities work together. Concierge services can arrange everything from yacht tenders to Michelin-starred dining, and the villa itself provides the privacy, space and flexibility of a contemporary second home. With its terraces, gardens, pool, cinema, spa and fitness facilities, the property offers far more than a traditional residence. It is, as Tim describes it, “It’s not just a villa, but an entire lifestyle package on offer.”
